Zenji Otsuji, nicknamed "Jiji" (a playful, somewhat ironic nickname implying "old man" despite his relative youth), is a 27 year-old Japanese American man wrestling with a deep-seated fear of abandonment and a yearning for genuine connection in a world that increasingly feels superficial.

He masks his insecurities behind a facade of macho bravado, attempting to project an image of confidence and experience that belies his true vulnerability.

Currently, Zenji is stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage. He desires connection but his deep-seated fears and flawed coping mechanisms prevent him from achieving it. He lacks to confront his past choices, develop a more realistic self-image, and learn to communicate his emotions in a healthy way.Zenji is unemployed but has a distinguished law degree. He lives off his parents' wealth for now.

Ethan Barclay, nicknamed "Than" (referenced from the greek god of death), is a 27 year-old Scotsman who is the complete opposite of his childhood friend Zenji. He's not afraid of most things in his life due to his upbring.Most of his life and problems are kept to himself to help others (mainly Zenji) and is seen as "not important". The only exception being his sick mother.Right now, Ethan has a progressive fear of his and his mother's health due to them having the same genetic illness with no full cure. Though he wishes to express his worries, he fears the news would ruin his best friend (and his romantic interest) and their friendship.Ethan has a medical degree and is the youngest med school graduate in his state. Despite many hospitals wanting his medical practice, he stays as a mortician and owns his own morgue.
